UK Electric Vehicle Charging Points

I noticed that there is a lot of inaccuracies for the electric vehicle charging points – many are in the wrong place and so many missing. In fact I just read that there are 8,471 charging locations in the UK hosting a total of 13,613 charging devices.

Accurate information is vital, of course, to the growing number of electric car users.

I have made some edits, but nothing yet has been approved … I’m more than happy to contribute further, but I am wondering if HERE should be doing something more automated.

There is already a few well established sources of charger locations and features ( https://www.zap-map.com/ https://openchargemap.org etc ) as well as the operators themselves ( https://www.shell.co.uk/motorist/station-locator.html https://instavolt.co.uk/ etc ). Much of this is available via API’s and open licence. They are also well reviewed,

So, should I continue to edit the maps manually ? Or can HERE do some sort of automated link to the one or more of the existing data sources ?

If I continue to edit manually, how long should it take for these to be approved ?

Unfortunately the source providers that you cite are not available for commercial purposes under an open licence. HERE currently have commercial agreements with EV source providers and are always looking to expand upon this coverage. Hopefully this enhancement will be implemented shortly.

Please feel free to continue to update EV charging points in Map Creator – your inputs are always appreciated. Currently these edits are reviewed manually and there is a bit of a backlog on these. This will delay the time before they are approved.
In fact a new process is being developed to better sync EV edits into our core database from Map Creator. EV charging points are currently treated differently to other Points of Interest due to technical reasons.

As it happens I just noticed a couple of new EV instavolt charging points appear on my sat nav live search ( I believe the search request goes to TOM TOM but HERE provide the maps, so I’m not sure where the live data is originated from or the relationships between Hyundai, TOM TOM and HERE.
